Kicking the habit

I have fallen off the wagon and I had been so good for so long.

Let me explain. I love magazines, country living, country life, country homes and interiors the list is endless. It's probably fair to say that almost any magazine can sway me with a beautiful front cover. It needs to have the lure of an hour of pure day dream escapism.

I get swept along with the colours, tempting me ever closer to those bright sunny days, meadows of of swaying grasses, dotted with wild flowers. Perfect vegetable plots filling the family table through the year. Spurred on to turn the pages with the promise of vintage discoveries which have been lovingly restored, carefully painted, then placed in the best corner for that dreamy effect.

Delightful recipes which encapsulate the essensence of an english afternoon tea, delicate china or the excitement of a new artist with their stunning pottery.

They beckon you to live your dreams as you skip through the glossy pages imagining the fun you'll be having while you camp in the meadow, next to the stream, in the Romany Caravan, while your scrummy man collects firewood and your angelic children roast marshmallows just before you drift off to sleep under the stars........

You see I am a hopeless case. But I have been so so good because now I can get all these wonderful daydreams and inspirational visions while reading your delightful blogs. I was kicking the habit.

That was until the very naughty Joules sent me their magazine, FREE, through the post. Well it would have been quite rude and very churlish to have committed it to the recycle pile before I stole a tiny glimpse inside, wouldn't it?!!

Oh the complete joy, vintage caravans, yummy fabrics, scrummy firewood collecting man, angelic children (in clean, beautiful clothes) and me sat reading my book while stealing glances at the free range children dancing around the fields (still in clean clothes!). Chickens in the garden, a vegetable patch to be proud of, really very unfair to put so much in just one magazine, don't they know I am trying soooooo hard?

The deal was done, I had sealed my fate, I know full well that one is just never enough, one bite of the cherry will never surfice.

So as with all addictions, one just leads to another..........!!!

Ah ha!!
I knew the Joules magazine would tip you over the edge....! It is a very naughty bit of paper, that's for sure, and as you know it was responsible for me finally giving in to my clothes-lust and buying the yellow floral dress last week!!!
We should write to Tom Joule and complain that his products are just tooooo wonderful for words!

Lol
I agree the little Joules mag. is scrumptious and very inspiring!
Also reminded me of camping days in my youth, only we were under shabby (not in the chic sense) khaki canvas, rather than the roof of a romantic romany. It was still

p.s. Many thanks for your lovely comments on my blog, I am thinking of putting up a flower tutorial.

I am so with you on this. Every magazine I buy makes me want to demolish my house, repaint all the furniture and then distress it, handmake everything and anything and generally feel disatisfied with my lot! As for the Romany caravan, we saw one at the Dover Transport Museum at the weekend and it was so beautiful. Isabel and I fell in love with it instantly. I too can imagine long summers camped in a field, by a stream, crocheting flowers and ripples galore...sigh! As for Joules, they don't make clothes for elephants, so I tend not to look. DevX

Hello Debs
Thank you for visiting my blog and for your good wishes for Larry.
Lily of the Valley is a wonderful flower that evokes nostalgia. For me it is walking up to my Grandmother's house in Belgium. They had a carpet full of them leading up to the house! The scent is beautiful and when I smell them it takes me back to those wonderful days.
I could so relate to your post about magazines...For some reason, I haven't opened my copy of Joules yet but that is about to change!
Very enjoyable blog, I shall return.

Hi there, I am hosting a book swap over on my blog. It is a permanent feature, which will always be on my blog, it is not a one off, like the rose theme swap I'm hosting. I have listed a load of my books which I am willing to swap, take a look, there may be some you fancy. If you would like to list books which you no longer want, and are willing to swap, just contact me at rosehyacinth@hotmail.co.uk, or leave a comment on my blog, with your name, the name of your blog and the books you wish to swap, and I will type them up and post them on the swap page, so the more and more people who participate, the wider the range of books there will be to choose from, and remember, it will always be there on my blog.

Back again with some suggestions of Afternoon Tea!
Having had replies from several people, here's my suggestion:
A Monday, Tuesday or Friday some time between 15th June and 10th July. How about The Bath Priory? Michele at Cowboys & Custard doesn't have transport so this could be a good location for her and provide parking for others!
I'm very much open to suggestions with the location though. The days suggested would make it possible for Sue at Vintage to Victorian to join in.
I shall send the above to all others who showed an interest too!
